Home garden leps 9/22/16

Some of the leps in our garden on 9/22/16.  Many are at a late date and/or southern species; for example, Peck's Skipper, Ocola Skipper, Sachem, Fiery Skipper.  Perhaps the very warm September and its lingering summer weather has been a factor.

Pipevine Swallowtail, home, 9/21/16

A Pipevine Swallowtail was on our Buddleia on 9/21/16: that's the second latest at our garden in 16 years.  I photographed it during its 4 minute stay at our neighbor's Buddleia.  Below, a few record photos, which can't do justice to the splendid butterfly.

Cloudless Sulphur, Ocola Skipper 9/12/16; Sachems, Orange/Clouded Sulphur

Today we had another Cloudless Sulphur fly through our yard, but this time it stopped in the garden across the street and I was able to get a record photo.  Also, the Ocola Skipper was back, this time in an aster with 8 Sachem Skippers.  On the 14th, still more than a dozen Sachems, a Giant, a Viceroy, and a Orange/Cloudless cross.
