Sagebrush Sparrow, Sage Thrasher, Slate-colored Fox Sparrow, Coachella Valley Preserve, Thousand Palms. Thanks to Curtis M. for pointing out that this Fox Sparrow is a Slate-colored Fox Sparrow, a typical western sub-species, but unusual in the desert. Notice its "slate-gray head and mantle, and the chestnut wings, rump, and tail" Beadle & Rising. The 4 sub-species of Fox Sparrow are close to being declared separate species.
